Get serious about your cooking and your green credentials with this 10-piece set of hard anodized cookware from Earth Pan by Farberware, which features a unique, eco-friendly nonstick surface. The set includes a 1-1/2-quart saucepan with lid, 2-quart saucepan with lid, 8-inch skillet, 10-inch skillet, 3-quart saute pan with lid, and 8-quart stockpot with lid. Harder than stainless steel, the cookware’s hard anodized exterior is dense, nonporous, and highly wear-resistant for extra durability and professional performance as well as quick and even heat distribution to help reduce hot spots. They also feature dual-riveted, stay-cool stainless steel handles.

The foundation of all Earth Pan cookware is the unique SandFlow nonstick coating that originates from sand–used to manufacture kitchenware like glass and silicone bakeware. Just like the nonstick pans you’ve used over the years, Earth Pan cookware is formulated to provide excellent food release without use of cooking oils, and the pans are easy to clean. Based on industry lab tests, SandFlow nonstick surfaces are three times more durable than ceramic-based surfaces and they require 33 percent less energy to cure than traditional nonstick pans.

The SandFlow coating does not contain PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene, also known as the brand name Teflon) or PFOA (a key processing agent in making nonstick and stain-resistant materials, including Teflon)–both of which have raised health concerns in recent years. Laboratory animals exposed to high doses of PFOA suffered cancer, low birth weight and a suppressed immune system, though PTFE-manufactured nonstick cookware is considered an insignificant exposure source of PFOA.

These pans are oven safe to 600 degrees F, and they work on all cooking surfaces, except for induction cookers. They are dishwasher safe, though handwashing is recommended to ensure longevity. Metal utensils and abrasive cleaners or brushes should be avoided. Packaging material for Earth Pan by Farberware is made from at least 50 percent recycled fiber with all materials being 100 percent recyclable.

Wonderful Product, April 18, 2009

I’ve been using this product for about a month and haven’t found anything I don’t love about it. It is eco-friendly, it cleans up easily whether you wash it by hand or in dishwasher, and the stainless finish is really attractive. I’ve only used phosphate-free liquid diswasher product such as Palmolive Eco + and washing by hand any liquid product I have in stock. I had thrown out all teflon and silver brand coated products about a year ago due to possible toxins being in these products and have missed the non-stick cooking. The sandflow/ceramic coating seems really durable. I did make sure to purchase new cooking utensils (wooden spoons, high temp silicone spatula, and thongs with silicone tips.

These are great pans. The real key is not to use the dishwasher which will slowly destroy the non stick surface. Any use of metal utensils will eat away at any surface, not stick or not. When something burns to the bottom just soak it for a couple of hours and it comes off with a sponge. This is my second Farberware set, my first lasted 10 years before the teflon started coming off. I would recommend this product to any one.

Lower the heat, December 15, 2009

Good value. You definitely need to lower the heat with these pans. They conduct and spread the heat very well. I have to set my stove probably 2 settings lower than I used with my old pans. To aid nonstick I have found a little Olive oil or small amount of butter works great with these pans. Cleanup is extremely easy.On the negative side the large pan discolored after the first couple of uses and could not be cleaned. I sent it back for replacement. So far I have been waiting for a month for promised replacement so we will see. I would buy these pans again and like some other reviewers I would like to add a couple of larger pans to this set.

So pleased!, December 1, 2009

I was looking for new cookware and wanted something with the ease of non-stick but without the potential health risks that other non-stick coatings pose. After much research here on Amazon and on Consumer Reports, I decided to go with EarthPan. I have used the pans 2 or 3 times so far and am very happy with the non-stick feature and ease of cleaning after cooking. One of my pans was dented when I opened the packaging but 1 call to the manufacturer has solved this problem, they are sending me a replacement pan without any trouble on my part. Overall, I’m very impressed with the look and function of this cookware set.
